While looking for fun summer things to do with the children I cam across the water blob in Pinterest. The blog that came up with it is adorable and you should check it out. clumsycrafter.com
It will walk you through making one. The first day we attempted this was with the best 2m plastic home depot had. It had nothing stronger. We also use blue duct tape. The Tape was fantastic though a but hard to cut. Wonder Hubby placed in an area he thought was flat enough and taped it all up.
Moments after starting to fill it though, it started to roll! Clearly the area was not flat and he quickly moved it knowing it would be harder to move it as time went on and it filled.
The children could not wait for it to fill so they started to play on it.
First blue water color paint, non-toxic was added. It gave it a nice soft color.
Children asked about adding other colors and we could not find a good reason to say no so they added others.
The water was very pretty for a while anyway. The kids had fun trying to get them to mix my bouncing.
It was quickly noticed that the plastic seemed to have marks in it already from the playing.
Then the water was brown still though it attracted more children from the neighborhood to play. A couple from across the way came out to sit on the porch and watch the fun. Probably wondering if we are nuts. We don’t really know the neighbors.
It must be noted here that the blog that shared this idea said they wanted to try with glitter in it, so we did! Not that you can tell in the photos.
Soon those little marks in the plastic gave way to holes and this had the kids running over asking for more tape. For the next hour I sat and cut tape for them so they could patch their leaking blob!
After about two hours the kids wanted to give trying to save the poor thing. The sun was starting to go down and it was time to thank the thing for the fun and to pull it apart. The kids absolutely loved this part. The water ran down the side walk and the grass that is not watered here by people got some water…. and glitter.
Children went home covered in glitter! I thought for sure I would have calls or visits from parents about this but so far no one has been upset!
It was a great few hours of play and I think the children learned a bit too! If your thinking about doing this, I think you should! It is cheap and goodness the water in the water blob stays nice and cool! I would however find a stronger plastic than we did.
This was so much fun the kids begged to do it again the next day!
