What types of maintenance do you do on your car?

I have to admit, I am not a car expert. I drive an old Honda Odyssey van that I love. If you love your car as much as I love mine, chances are that you understand how important proper maintenance is. After all, taking care of your car means that it will last longer, run smoothly for a long time, and be reliable when you need to take it on a long trip or journey. My family travels a lot and too often I have to admit we wait till right before the trips to get everything done and checked on our van. It is just so wonderful and reliable and I feel very lucky. It’s important to realize that proper vehicle maintenance doesn’t just mean that you get your oil changed every few months. While that’s important, it’s also vital that you pay attention to other aspects of your car, too.

First off, always make sure that you have your glass replaced if you find cracks or chips in your windshield. While you might not notice them at first, the truth is that cracks weaken your glass and can be incredibly damaging. In some places, having a crack in your windshield can actually be illegal, so always make sure to get your car checked as quickly as possible. We have a friend who has a hybrid SUV and has had a cracked windshield for a while now. It makes us worry about her. She is clearly concerned about the environment but we are worried about her safety!
It’s also important that you check your tires on a regular basis. This really isn’t hard and my husband has a tool to check the pressure on is key chain! If you aren’t sure how to check your pressure, ask your local mechanic to show you how to. Chances are a mechanic will be able to quickly show you how to check your tire’s air pressure. If your tires do look low, visit any local gas station to use the air pump. You’ll be able to quickly fill your tires.
In addition to the air in your tires, make sure that you check the wear and tear on each of your tires. When your tire treads get low, you’ll need to replace your tires. Never put off replacing your tires, especially if you live in an area with bad weather. Low treads can make it difficult to drive on icy or wet roads even if you’re a good driver.
There is a lot more to car maintenance than these considerations of course but they should get you thinking about this important topic!

  1. My last 2 vehicles have been Honda Odyssey’s and I LOVE THEM! Roomy, full of speed and just all around handy, being able to open doors for kids when raining or just to keep them from slamming car doors into other vehicles in the parking lot. Thanks for the tips!

Maintenance helps improve the life of your vehicle. You should always follow the recommended maintenance schedule set by the manufacturer.

No clue! The old man is a mechanic and does it all.
