Top 10 Trips to Plan this Summer

Summer is nearly here, but what will you be doing with the kids? This is the question buzzing around the mommy groups and here are the top 10 trips to plan this summer from the best of them!

  1. The Beach of Course! Pack up the van with sand toys and kites, towels, and sun protection, water and a picnic and head to the beach. Of course if you can not get to a beach, a pool will work too! Did you know that a beach in VA and MD you can find wild horses?
  2. State Parks for camping and adventure. Like the beach this kind of trip tends to be low cost. Forget all the electronics (I will miss you!) and pack up the truck with a tent and cooking gear, sleeping bags and marshmallows for smores. Maybe bring some cameras so everyone in the family can go shutter hunting in the woods. It would make a great scrap book!
  3. The Aquarium is cool! If your like me and don’t deal well with the sun you might want to plan some fun at an indoor aquarium like Mystic Seaport. Make sure to look up the aquarium and look at the rules so you will know if you can bring snacks or if you should plan to eat there or after with the kids. The aquarium is always a trip to remember.
  4. The Zoo is wild! What I love about many zoos these days is that they have some indoor areas with seating so I can rest while the kids keep playing. This is important for a mother with Fibromyalgia and maybe a mother with a nursing baby. A zoo is a great place to bring your little wild ones and watch the wonder in their eyes as they try running and dragging you from exhibit to exhibit.
  5. The Grand Parents is peaceful! Grandparents and Grandchildren need more time together and I think summer is the perfect time to drop the kids off for a few weeks and let them learn and play with the ones you got to learn and play with growing up! If this is at all an option for you, I say go for it! Time is the greatest gift in life and great Grand parents deserve some time with their grand babies.
  6. Amusement Parks offer fun and sun. This is not a trip I am planning but I know many others heading to Disney and other amusement parks looking for the rush of roller coasters and games and food they know they should not be eating but it is so much fun to do it anyway! If your like me and it is not your thing, maybe see if friends are going. My oldest daughter was invited to go with friends and I know she will have a great time!
  7. Staycation time! Why not camp in the back yard or create a Jurassic theme weekend inside with movies and popcorn and junk food and games? Staycations are still popular and have been since about 2007. You set some dates, take some time off, and stay home or close to home. This is a great chance to shut out all media and connect as a family and avoid the normal day to day rush.
  8. Museums are fun too! Wish so many science and history and art museums chances are you could visit a new one each day within driving distance from home. Learning is fun, at least my children think so. Maybe make it a mission to see as many as possible this summer?
  9. Children’s Museums are special! My children love to go to childrens museums, they can spend hours and hours playing there and it is so much fun to play with them and sometimes just stand back out of their way and watch what happens. Get a membership and go weekly to really enjoy every part of your local one!
  10. Protest! I don’t think you saw this one coming. The reason it is here though is because like myself many of the great parents I know have passion for things and as such our children tend to as well, be it the same views as our own or different. How about helping your children research things they believe and then find a way to get out and support that view? The voices of our children count to and we should let them know it!
