How SuperStorm Sandy is effecting our Crunchy Family

Right now it is 10pm and the rain is coming down hard and the wind gusting hard as well. We have gotten over 4 inches of rain today, I am betting more than 5 personally. I guess I will hear about what the actual number is for all of today tomorrow morning. If we have power.

Last I looked, over 400,000 homes are without power in Maryland. So far, we have had the lights flicker a bit but we still have power. I wish I could say the rest of post had power as well but some parts are sadly out. Trees are coming down and I know some people are concerned.

Sadly Fort Meade does not have a shelter here on post. They advised us the nearest one is 30 minutes east, into the storm and higher water at a high school. This seemed odd to me and some others and we mentioned it the facebook page for Fort Meade. Sadly some do not want to hear anything negative, do not want to hear concerns, and some are just down right board and mean it seems. Fort Meade PR has not addressed the issue other than to say: Fort George G. Meade, Md We Do not have time for arguments here on the page. Unneccesary comments will be removed. Thankfully none of my posts had been removed. It is not a shock to read such a post though and a bit of a puzzle as there is no data limit so posting is not an issue, comments on the site do not slow anything down or prevent information sharing either. However as it is the opinion of some that the ball has been dropped in the past by post and those who run the site I think they are trying to cover themselves. I do  think it is a mistake to not have a shelter open on post, and I would like to know why there is not. Trees coming down on houses is not a rare thing here and not everyone will or can inconvenience a neighbor. One of my neighbors has terminal cancer, another has her family over and is already crowded, two more are vacant locked houses and others we do not know. Friends move often and we are a large family. If a tree comes down I rather not chance driving 30 minutes away to keep my kids warm and out of the storm.

That is however here nor there. So far, so good. We do have one issue that is storm related though, can you see it?

Water is coming down a kids room external wall on the first floor. No signs of water about it. Very odd. Sadly we did a bad job sealing the paint job so part of it running. I think this will make it less hard when we move to paint over it though, less tears on my room. So for now the kids are saying the wall is crying about the storm. The kids seem fine though, playing, reading, and baking. I told my husband we would keep baking today till the power stops us. Fresh Bread and Cookies! It is a great distraction and fun for the kids, not to mention yummy.

One of the best parts of my night is that so far our Comcast Internet Service is still going strong and no issues at all. Thus I can still be on here blog and catch up with friends.

And one last thing about our day, this after noon my 2 year old through the iPad from her high chair on to my foot, the corner hit the top of my foot and it hurt so much I actually cussed out loud. I thought it would be ok but as time has gone on I can now hardly walk on it and it hurts on the bottom when there is pressure put on it. I am in hopes it is not broken.
