The STEM Toys Kids and Parents are Loving! – Osmo – Best Buy

As parents we know that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are really important! While school systems are pushing education that focuses on testing reading and math, sometimes other important aspects of learning are not featured enough. When given hands on learning in STEM, kids learn fast and tend to love it! Best Buy we know of course loves STEM and is helping parents find the best toys for kids to learn and have fun with, thus they have all the Osmo kits my kids want!

Whats in the Osmo Genius Kit!

The Genius Kit includes 5 great STEAM games and the Osmo game system.

Works with iPad Pro 9.7 inch, all iPad Mini, all iPad Air, all iPad 2 & up.

When ever I am asked what to get a child as a gift I am quick to suggest the Osmo Genius Kit. You get so much for your money in this kit and it has a great STEM impact for kids in the learning range of 5 to 12 years old. The Genius Kit is an Award-winning hands-on game system that works on your iPad. It helps fosters creativity & problem solving skills. It comes with 5 downloadable apps: Words, Tangram, Newton and Masterpiece and Numbers so your child can enjoy interactive play that encourages creative thinking and social interaction. Kids can play on their own, with you, and kids can sit next to one another and do it together as well! Some of my children insist on doing it all alone, others love to work together on activities and solving problems and goodness the giggles they have and the cheering when they succeed!

The kids favorite game as of late is the Tangrams but Words comes in second place, specially for my 7 year old daughter.

Pros:

Set up is easy! My 7 year old did it and just asked me to check my e-mail, give her the code, and click on a link! Off she went to master the games!

It supports early math, reading, and spelling skills that start out easy and get more challenging.

More than one child can play some of the activities

It includes Art as we know that is part of STEAM and more important than ever now that many schools are dropping it.

It can kids learn the early parts of coding and get a hands on feel for what they will someday see as 1’s and 0’s.

Each game seems to really accommodate a wide range of skills.

As a mom I love the way this is packaged, each game has it’s own box and is easy to store!

No issues with crashing for us.

Great price for the all the games you get!

My 17 year old daughter even loves this, specially the Masterpiece game.

Cons:

The programs can be finicky about placement and this can aggravate kids.

Surface must be flat so this means it is not an on the go game.

Surface textures can cause it not to work properly. We put a white paper under our playing area most time.

Lighting can be an issue!

And of course the big one…. it only works with apple products! We have 5 kids, 1 Ipad Air…. and a mess of other tablets!

Sounds like a great way to add in some STEM fun. With our three daughters, we push math and science. Even if they choose different paths for their careers, a good foundation is only going to benefit them. Having that come through play makes it even more engaging.

  10. Totally need to get my hands on this for our kids.
What a great way to keep them engaged and learning over the summer!

This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing!

  12. This is amazing. I don’t have an iPad though, just an android. But I may have to rethink that just for this. Amazing tool for fun learning. Thanks for the review.

My family of geeks are torn! We have 4 kindles and 1 ipad. My husband is a programmer and loves android and not so much apple (programming issues stemming from his teen years even. LOL) However for Osmo, he agrees, the ipad is fantastic!

  13. Wow! Toys have come so far since when I was a kid! These all look so cool!
