Should They Clean Their Room?

KidsRoomMess

Photo a day – day 14

My youngest ones share a room and what an interesting and fun room it is. Tonight though, it is one heck of a messy room! They should clean it up don’t you think? These days it seems harder to get them to do so, I think though it is because they enjoy doing it someone bigger than they are, or maybe they just like ant mentality of everyone working together. What ever the case is, try to remember needs. They have a need of a clean room, if they know it or not and I am not being unreasonable expecting it to be less of a mess. They are young though and while we try to help them understand the need, it comes down to the fact that life is just so very interesting for them and they don’t want to slow down learning and playing to clean up. It also doesn’t help of course that the holidays threw up all over the place and we haven’t gotten down to a perfect system with these new additions yet. The room still needs a rug too, something to distract from the tan one and to make it more fluffy don’t you think? Next time we move (next year so whispers the military) when we move, I think we will get more swinging chairs too, the kids love them! Not so sure the dog loves them as much though… Now to get the dog to stop chewing their wood toys. Why can’t she like the plastic ones I dislike?

I thought it was important to show what life is like here. Unlike so many other bloggers I am not scared to show the dark side. Life is not perfect, or easy, and there messes. Not every pinterest project does well, not every parent choice is the right one. The beauty is in the dedication to keep trying, keep getting better.

Where did you get that chair she is sitting in? That is awesome. I would love to have that for my kids room.

iKea! Really cheap too and not hard to set up and it hold my husband weight even. The kids love it! We would have another one in that room it the room was bigger! Hopefully next house we will have more space!

  2. My boys work together to clean each others rooms, but I can only get it out of them about once a week. I end up picking up and trying to teach them where the proper place for their toys are. I love the swinging chairs!

  3. Mo mother used to get on me all the time to clean…and I hated it. Once she stopped ordering me to do it, I found that at a certain point, I couldn’t stand the mess anymore. I would clean it up myself, without being asked. It was always like a treasure hunt, finding things I hadn’t seen in months, or forgot I put them away there.

My kiddos do a fairly good job at keeping their rooms clean. But it isn’t anything I stress. And I like your openness! It is very refreshing! In fact my biggest pet peeve are those “super mom” blog post. You know the ones where everything is perfect and happy and it makes you wonder- where are your kids really at?

Life is not perfect, your photo reflects what we all go through. Should they clean their room? Yes they should! And other rooms too where they have left their footprint. We allow our kids to play, but it is their responsibility to put their toys and books in order. We instilled this in them from when they were very young. Any book or toy left on the floor is considered ‘trash’ and will go into the trash never to be seen again. The thought of loosing their precious commodities sends them scurrying when the broom comes out to sweep the floor. Their is no discussion, you should see them in action!
