What our child thought about My Social Journey Monthly Box for Preschoolers

My little one who just turned 3 was so excited to open this Mrs Wordsmith box that she knew was all for her. She jumped up on the table and waited for me patiently to help her open it. She explored the cards first while I read the simple instructions. We explored the kit together and she loves it! I know this is a kit a lot of parents will love as I often get asked how one keeps busy with kids this age. I think monthly boxes are a blessing! This one is of special interest as I don’t think our society talks enough about emotional intelligence. I also am not sure we challenge our little ones enough in small bursts like this. Even with so many children I think I underestimate what they are capable of doing and learning sometimes.

While some of the activities are beyond my newly 3 year old, such as letters and drawing beyond scribbles, she is able to finger trace. She likes using the words and thinks the story is silly enough to interest her! She really seems to be captivated by the cartoons. There are some hard words for her to say but this isn’t shocking as she is a late talker. I think this set is great for a late talker and parents. Some of these words I wouldn’t have thought to try to introduce, like peckish. Who uses that word here in the states anymore? I found myself amused by the The Social Journey. If you are looking at reviews in hopes of picking the next monthly box for your preschooler this is certainly one to get!

Our little one loves the cards and truly played with the words back and forth with me. She insisted we go over them again and again. I put up a new word every few days, and when doing this, she likes to lay out all the cards and go over them again. We reread some of the old words in the story book as well to refresh them. She looks forward to this time playing with words. I think her speech therapist will find some of her new words fun too when we see her next month! Honestly sometimes I struggle to find new words to teach our little one, this box helps me focus. This system is so much more than just vocabulary though. When kids can express their emotions in words and then know what to do with those emotions, they strengthen their emotional intelligence. This can only help the whole house run smoother right? This can only help children thrive throughout their lives.

Update: I showed this kit to our little ones Speech therapist and she thinks it will work great for us. She did confirm some of the activities in the activity book are beyond the age level and that actually drawing things out the way the book instructs is more on the level of 6 year olds. She gave me ideas on how to modify though! Don’t worry if you have to modify a bit for your little ones too!

I love to hear my two year old say, “Love you.” It is so sweet when they respond and say everything that their older siblings say!

My son’s first word was his name. For a long time, his favorite word was stinky. Now, it’s Eww, Yuck! lol

My girls’ first words were both Mama. They love learning new words. One says “seriously” a lot lately. 😂

My child’s first word was Lady, our dog. Her favorite word now is mine.
