 Teen Room Makeover Part 1

Electronics: I know that not every parent agrees with me on this but I think it is important for children to have their own electronics in their own rooms. It helps them learn to respect tech and keeps them to some extent from ruining yours! In the early teen years it can be assumed what is gotten now chances are will not make it to college so it is ok to go give with a TV and Desk Top for their room. Again, not all parents are ok with teens having computers in their own rooms and only you know your child best. Our daughter at the moment has her desk top in her room as she is responsible with it at the moment and as geek parents we are very good at monitoring anything that happens on it. Our daughter does not really need much in the way of electronics. I do however want to get a very large wall clock for her room, something modern to go with the style she is leaning towards.

Rugs: My daughter has hard wood floors and we do not want to change that so much as put area rugs on main areas of the room as she loves sleepovers and all the girls love to dance. A rug will bring some softness to the dark cool side colors in the room. We are thinking about this one from Mail Order Rugs.

She like many teens loves music and our teen plays the guitar, those hers is glitter blue!
I love that shag are rugs are in right now. I think a blue rug would be perfect for under her desk.

 Art:
Right now long closet doors are hand painted by her and her friends with different words and images that were relevant to them 2 year ago. This needs to be updated. I think we will prime it and again on a sleep over let teens decorate it as they wish. This will bring a focus to their own art. I also would like our teen to hunt for art on Etsy from artists there and make a wish list we can buy from for her. I think art it very very important. Hanging their own art is important but also that of others. I am no art expert though and could not to the importance of art appreciation any justice. I think that as an adult either you get it or you don’t, either someone helped you get it as a child or they didn’t. I am trying to give my children the change to get it.

I think this covers the basics. I hope that as fall hits and my not so little family ends our season of traveling that I will have photos of how the room makeover goes! Good planning should help things go more smoothly! With teens though is anything every smooth?
