Panasonic Summer FlashXpress Toaster Oven Summer Challenge!

Keeping the Kitchen Cool while Cooking in the Summer!

I was so glad to hear about the Panasonic Summer FlashXpress Toaster Oven Summer Challenge! The idea is to cook great food and not heat up the kitchen. This is specially important to me because I live in Georgia and the heat index is often over 100 and rarely under 95 these days. Add to this the fact that our central AC is out and the landlord does not want to repair it so we are living with window units in the bedrooms. This leaves the main part of the house without air conditioning. This house is over 3,500 square feet. That is a lot of hot house and cooking just makes it worse! Introducing the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven! It has a double infrared heating feature to make food hot fact but it spares my kitchen from getting hot too. What is not to love?

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the summer food my Mother used to make, like tuna melts! With 5 children “quick” is really important and the FlashXpress Toaster Oven is all about being quick!

While this old country house is very large, the kitchen is small so this toaster oven fits great! It takes up very little country space. It is 10 1/4″ (H) x 13″ (W) x 12″ (D), and if you do need to move it often it is great that it only weighs 7.5lbs.

We can fit 4 buns on the tray but I used two to start with!

Just five minutes melted the cheese and warmed everything up and made the bun wonderfully crunchy.

As tuna melts take just 5 minutes or less to mix up this is a very quick and yummy summer dinner.IMG_20150814_191651_602

I really appreciate being able to see the food heat up.

A few more of these and the whole house was very pleased with the results!

Tuna Melt Recipe

  • 2 Cans Tuna Fish
  • 4 Buns (rye bread is great too!)
  • 1/2 celery stalk (diced)
  • 1/4 tea spoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tea spoon dijon mustard
  • 2 table spoons Mayo
  • 8 pieces white American Cheese (You can use any cheese, many like it with cheddar)

Mix ingredients together and build your tuna melt. Place in a 250 degree oven for 10 minutes or the Panasonic FlashXpress for 5 minutes! You want the bun to get a bit crisp and the cheese to be fully melted. This recipe makes 4 melts! Add fries or potatoe chips and a cucumber salad and you are good to go. I love quick summer dinners.

      Optional:

  • Pickles
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato

This toaster oven is 40% faster than conventional toaster ovens. It has 6 fast preset buttons for things like bread, frozen pizza, and reheating left overs. No more soggy left over microwave pizza! It makes toast for some reason taste so much better than my toaster. Frozen waffles are so yummy in this oven to. Why do I both even having a toaster any more?

LOVE THIS! We have been avoiding using our oven because it is still 98 degrees here. And that has meant a lot of PB&J’s with a new baby in the house. Definitely going to check out this toaster over and try that Tuna Melt!

I love using a toaster oven. It has been 97-102 this week! Too hot to heat up the house with the regular oven.

  3. I use my Microwave a lot this time of year because of all the wonderful pieces that Tupperware has (SmartSteamer, Pressure Cooker, StackCooker) but this looks great …. am going to have to seriously look into this. Thanks for sharing.
