A Must for Homeschoolers! — Free

If your new to homeschooling or have been doing it for years if you have not yet read this it is a must read!
The Underground History of American Education By John Taylor Gatto
You can read it free there but I am not sure for how long so I would start now!
Why do I think it is a must? Because it is important to have a clear vision of what we are trying to do, and what we are trying to avoid. Seeing the history of our educational system is very helpful from the realities of children on cape cod being forced to school at gun point to just why we are teaching to test. We need to know the span of what we are choosing to not partake in and what of it is of actual use to the future of our children.
The topic is important enough to read about but add to that the voice it is coming from and it is on a whole new level of interesting and motivating. John was a school teach, and award winning NY school teacher at that and beloved by students for him uncommon opinions and approach. Soon after leaving the school system he published Dumbing Us Down.
When my husband and I read this book we recalled our own experiences in school, reflected there on the pages we sat seeing what we knew was true.
The book sparked a deeper meaning for our ambitions to home school our children, to give them a chance to learn with passion and creativity in ways that work best for them.
If your like me you have so many books to be read, the pile is high and lists are long. You should place this one near the top though if your homeschooling. It really is a must.
