Mom Time: A Chance to Focus On You

If you’ve got kids, they’re guaranteed to take priority in your life, and you’ll get so much satisfaction and joy from watching them grow up into great little humans. However, your kids will be a full-time job, whether you’re a stay at home mom, or you head out to the office during the week; children will need 24/7 care in some capacity, and you’ll feel the responsibility to do it well. But, people can’t run on empty, and if you’re giving your all to your little ones, your family, your job, and the running of the household; you’re going to run out of steam sooner or later.

Tiredness and no time to focus on yourself can lead to stress and fatigue, which left unresolved, can lead to further health problems and wellbeing issues further down the line. You don’t want to run the risk of being out of action for a long period of time (imagine what the carnage you’d find afterwards); therefore, it’s crucial that you give yourself regular breaks.

Having some mom time isn’t an indulgence; it’s a necessity, and you’ll start reaping the rewards straight away. It’s time to get the calendar or diary out, and to start scheduling an hour or so here and there throughout the week to do something that’s for you, and you alone. There are an endless array of things you can start doing, and now is your chance to try a few things out that you like the sound of, and see what suits you, and uplifts you the most. Refocusing and recharging your mind will give you that little boost you need to continue with a hectic day or week ahead, so it’s vital that make an effort to make changes. Grab a notebook and pen, and start writing a list of the things you’d want to do during mom time, and figure out where and how you’re going to do them. The following are some ideas and inspiration for busy moms who need some moments to themselves so that they can continue with the craziness (they love) of family life with the kids, the home, and work.

Learn Something New

As you’ll know from watching your kids; learning something new is a great way to focus your mind and gain the satisfaction of achievement. Therefore, it could be time to look for local courses in something you’ve never tried before, or perhaps an activity you’ve done in the past and enjoyed, but haven’t found the time (until now) to pursue it. Bring out your artistic and creative side by going to a pottery, painting, or knitting class; this will be a great way to meet other people, potentially make new friends, and leave each week with even more skills in a particular area. You can then take those skills home with you, and pick up where you left off during your breaks and free time (that you’ve made sure to set aside for yourself). Creative activities are ideal for mindfulness, and a calm way to relax for a while as you concentrate on the results.

Maybe you want to increase or add to your education and qualifications; there’s always the option of heading to night school so that you feel like you have an added area of your life which will help you achieve more goals in the future. There are plenty of options online to learn and develop your knowledge in particular areas too; you can learn more about a language you want to speak, or improve your creative writing techniques so that you can finally start that book you’ve always dreamt of. The possibilities are endless, so find something that you’re going to look forward to doing or learning (or both), and make sure that you prioritize it for those moments that you’ve scheduled in away from family life.

It’s Time For A Treat

It might be the case that you need those moments alone to truly switch off and put your feet up; and, remember that your time is about whatever you need to ensure you’re re-charging properly. If you’re craving a massage; book one and enjoy the feeling of both physically and mentally unwinding. Whatever beauty treatments you prefer, whether it’s a facial, a hot stone massage, or just having a manicure and pedicure; make time to get them done. You’ll leave the spa or salon feeling relaxed and refreshed, not to mention a little more confident to take on the rest of your week. Keep an eye out for great deals online for treatments, and don’t be fearful of trying something new; you might just love it, and you could end up heading back regularly for more.

If you don’t like the idea of getting to and from a spa or salon regularly; you can create a similar environment at home. Run yourself a bath, and make sure that everyone in the household knows not to disturb you for the next couple of hours. Fill the bath with bubbles, pop a face mask on, and read the latest novel that’s been left of your bedside since you got it at Christmas. An at-home spa session in your bath is the perfect way to work your way through all the scented candles, toiletries, and bath products that you’ve stashed in the bathroom cabinet for special occasions. This is your special occasion, so treat yourself.

Get Some Fresh Air

You might have been busy for most of the day; clearing the house, preparing meals, dropping the kids off, heading to work, and, before you know it, you’ve yet to get outside for some fresh air. If this is the case in your current lifestyle; you need to start utilizing your free time to step outside more often. Stroll to the coffee shop for a latte instead of driving, or get your sneakers on for a power-walk, jog, or a run around the park. There’s no better way to blow away the cobwebs than to breathe in some fresh air and soak up some vitamin D. Whatever you choose to do during mom time; make sure that you enjoy it and that it helps with your health and mental wellbeing so that you’ve got plenty of stamina left for family life.
