Martin Luther King Jr.

Today the country and possible many around the world celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, or more so maybe the things he did in his life to all of us. He was the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace prize and said to be the best social activist the world has ever known.

I have known some amazing social activists I look up to, respect, and are so thankful to. I can only picture how those he actually touched must have been changed by him. Here so many years later his good works vibrate through the times and actions of our country though maybe not as strongly as I think they should be.

He once said: Was not Thomas Jefferson an extremist — “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” So the question is not whether we will be extremist but what kind of extremist will we be. Will we be extremists for hate or will we be extremists for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice–or will we be extremists for the cause of justice?

I wonder what he would think of the occupy movement? He wanted us to be activists for peace and love, of the golden rule. I think that the occupy movement is in agreement with his views.

As always though, I could be wrong.
