Letting Your Kids Choose Their Own Clothes

When it comes to being a parent, you’re responsible for every part of your child’s care. Because of that, when they’re young you bathe, dress, and feed them. When they get older you only give them advice on these things, and help prepare them for the big bad world outside. But whilst they’re young, is it really such a good idea to afford so much control away from them?

Of course, you say. Your kids take about 45 minutes in the morning to eat even one bowl of cereal, and they don’t know how to tie their own laces yet. And when it comes to going outside, they don’t know how other people or animals could be dangerous to them! So of course you should still be their parent in these matters, but you can let them be a bit more creative with what they choose to wear. It’s one of the best ways both children and adults alike can express themselves! If you’re still not convinced, here’s a couple of more reasons why.

It Creates a Confident Style

If you’re the kind of person who believes people should always be themselves and never try to fit in with the crowd, this is a good way to promote the same ideas with your kids. If you let them dress themselves and make sure they know they’re doing a good job with their decisions, they’re going to be a lot happier as they grow up. A happy, smiley parent staring down at their child is going to give them a lot more self esteem as they grow up.

And when they’re a teenager they can go online and look at read more here places on retail websites to really test their luck with how far they can push their style. And then when they come to you with all the ‘please!’ they can utter, you can be proud they got this confident because of your efforts.

It Takes Pressure Off Of You

If you let your kid dress themself, you’re going to have much more time to yourself in the morning! You can even try to spend an extra five minutes in bed before you do them their breakfast and then hop off to work yourself, and that can easily make your child’s style choices seem all the worth it.

But at the same time, it creates a sense of responsibility. If you teach your child from a young age how they can dress themselves and that it’s up to them to take control over putting their socks on in the morning, they’re going to grow up with a much stronger sense of self and how to properly take care of it.

Letting your kids choose their own clothes might seem a bit touch and go, but it’s worth it, even if only for a week’s test run. And that’s going to work wonders for their young self confidence!
