Homeschool Science Fun — Rock Candy

Yes, we count making candy as a science lesson for all our children!
Sweet!
We used a recipe from another blogger that was basically 1 part water to 2 parts sugar.
We did double jars, one for the warm window, one for a cool dark closet.
It did look very nice for the week it was there. (covered with a cloth to keep out dust)
Sadly though it might look from this photo like it worked, it didn’t. We chipped away the sugar glue in hopes of saving the project. We failed. However the children had a great time, learned that neither place light or dark for this set made no difference.
Of course they taste tested each one too. LOL
We plan on doing this again with different instructions.
Last December we tried this project, non of the crystals stuck to the stick however. They did grow though in the jar. We had used yet a different recipe for this one, far less sugar.
The crystals though fascinated the children when they chipped them out.
Geometry in action! They even noticed it looks a lot like clear quarts Crystals.
Wish us luck when we try again!
If you have any tips, please do share them!
