October is wonderful for harvest time. I love the how fall feels like it is finally here and how all sorts of veggies are in season. One of the things I miss about places we have lived in the past is gardening. Here we have no garden, yet. I have to lust after other gardens and here all about the last wonderful beautiful tomatoes of the year. I get to see photos of big bright carrots and yummy celery. I am lucky to know so many Crunchy parents who grow heritage vegetables even in the city limits. Others have home steads and others grow on patios. Between city chickens and organic backyard vegetables I am feeling very green!
So that means it is time to plan, and I know I am not the only one. I need to find easy ways to garden without putting all my soul into the lawn here just to leave it so soon and have them grass over it. Grass can be such a waste sometimes. Imagine everyone planting a garden rather than a manicured lawn…. picture how much healthier we might all be. Course picture how much worse it could be if main-streamers used pesticides that leaked into our organic gardens. Not the most beautiful thing to imagine right? I can however sadly see that happening.
That though is part of my issue here. On this post they hire a company to manicure the lawns. They use all sorts of things to do so and not all of it is safe says the notices they leave telling us from time to time to keep the kids and pets inside during certain hours. Putting edibles outside wouldn’t be wise given that information right? But if I had something potable I could bring in on those manicure days (Thursdays) then I could maybe save them. I don’t think I would feel safe then either though. Maybe growing inside would be best? I do have a room with two walls of solid windows!
Do you think these potato pots might work in such a sunny room? They look so interesting and easy! I know there has to be options and I have time to plan. Not too many things get planted at this time of year. Strawberries can be planted now if you didn’t know it and wanted them in your garden.
