If there is one thing my little homeschoolers love to do it is crafting and as one of our favorite holidays is coming this was a fitting project. Last month my 4 year old and I made a crayon wreath to help welcome in our school year. This month this owl wreath made with help from the whole family welcomes our guests.

Materials Used:

1 roll of purple Tulle

2 yards of Black Sparkle Tulle

2 yards of Orange Sparkle Tulle

Wreath base, wire or foam.

Felt in different colors

Thread/Embroidery Floss

Hot Glue

Ruler

Scissors

 In this project we found that our 4 year old could measure and cut the fabric. Our 6 year old measured and cut fabric and also tied the pieces to the wreath frame. We used double knots. I wrapped the frame with the purple spool of tulle, used the whole roll. This helped cover the wire frame from site. We cut the fabric tulle into 2 inch strips and then 11 inches long. Two pieces together per tie and we had a bit of fabric left over. Husband helped with quality control watching the kids measure and cut fabric. Our 13 year old with the shattered foot helped tie on fabric as well.

As it was late I took to hand making the owl myself. No template for this. I drew out a few ideas and our 6 year old son picked out the parts of the owls I have drawn that he liked best. I had gotten ideas from the internet and owls I had seen online and put together an owl we both liked. Please do a rough draft and please make a paper cut out before cutting felt unless your a great artist! I am not so like I tell my children, rough drafts are 100% needed and worth the time to do. I cut two pieces of the black felt, hand sewed around them, lightly stuffed with scrap pieces of felt and then closed. All the other felt parts I sewed on after either clearly with stitches or hidden stitches. When it was all done we used hot glue on the back to secure the owl to the frame. I could have hot glued the owl together and not sewn but there is something about fall that compels hand work to be done I swear it!
