Guest Post: Making the most of Playa de las Americas

Conventionally known for its clubs and nightlife, the warm, mild weather of Playa de las Americas also makes it an ideal location for a variety of sports. It’s for that reason that the resort has some of the most best sports and outdoor facilities in Spain, including the impressive golf courses of Golf Del Sur. Opened in 1987, they have since built a reputation as some of the premier courses in Europe, with the South golf course in particular holding several of the highest level international competitions in recent years. Seasoned golfers will find a challenging game there, as well as at the difficult north route, but it also has smaller courses and mini-golf that people new to the sport can try out. If you’re not interested in playing golf, though, Golf Del Sur also has rowing and tennis facilities for visitors to enjoy, as well as bars, restaurants and an assortment of shops.

If none of the activities on offer at Golf Del Sur take your fancy, then some of the many water sports to be found at the resort might pique your interest. Its beaches offer a wide variety of activities you could take up, ranging from the hiring of jet-skiis all the way to paragliding and windsurfing.

To get the most out of the water activities available at Playa de Las Americas, you should most definitely head to the Siam Park. Opened just a few years ago by the Princess of Thailand, it is one of the largest water parks in the whole of Europe and has a reputation as one of the best in the world. From high adrenaline rides to relaxing beaches, the slogan of the park is to offer something for the whole family to enjoy, and its range of activities does just that. Amongst the park’s attractions is the Tower of Power, which plunges its riders down an almost vertical 28 metres and into an aquarium. Other rides include The Dragon, which takes up to three companions on a raft and goes so fast that you experience zero gravity, and the Naga Racer, which pits six people against one another in a race down massive slides.

If it’s a family holiday you’re planning to Playa de las Americas, then the Parque Santiago, Tenerife is a good hotel to stay at. Its kid’s pool, surrounding shops and nearby beach allow you to comfortably spend a day there, but it’s central location also allows you to easily visit Golf Del Sur and Siam Park.
