Getting a great start to the day

 GUEST POST

It’s a well-known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Nutritional experts have been trying to get people to see the importance of breakfast for many years now. However, the message is still not getting through as many of us still skip breakfast on a regular basis. If you’re looking to become healthier and/or you want to lose weight, breakfast is a vital tool that can help.

Why breakfast is important for fitness

When you’re trying to get healthy, one of the main things you do is improve your fitness. Increasing the amount of exercise you do is great for the entire body. However, unless you provide the body with enough fuel before you exercise, you could end up doing more harm than good.

If you’re looking to lose weight, skipping breakfast could actually have the opposite effect. Your body holds onto fat if you don’t eat enough as it thinks you are having difficulty getting food. This will make it harder to shift when it comes to exercising.

A good piece of advice for those who are dieting is to eat breakfast like a kingeat lunch like a prince and eat dinner like a pauper. You need the initial fuel provided by breakfast to concentrate, exercise and get through the morning, so enjoy a large and healthy morning meal. Lower the quantities of what you eat throughout the day so that dinner is your smallest meal.

Aim for a breakfast of around 500 to 700 calories – this will help to keep you feeling satisfied until dinner and will help fuel any morning workouts you do. Even if you aren’t planning on working out until the afternoon, you should still get a good breakfast inside you.

Good examples of healthy breakfasts

There are plenty of healthy breakfast options to choose from and just one of these is breakfast cereal. Cereal is one of the most popular breakfasts because it is not only a great way to wake up your taste buds in the morning but it can also keep you going until lunchtime, minimising the need to snack. Some good cereals include porridge and granola. Top them off with different fruit for a tasty morning snack and a vitamin boost.

Omelettes are also fantastic breakfast choices. You can add various ingredients to make them even more filling and satisfying such as mushrooms and a small amount of cheese.
