Finally The Eco-Friendly Paint You Have Been Wanting – Review

Earth Paint Review

I have to say this is now my favorite kids paint and I enjoy working with it as well. For years I have been uncomfortable with paints that I didn’t feel safe with, that I knew contained petroleum products and worse. I have searched and searched and finally came across a blog post about painting wood and how it is so hard to feel safe with paints we know a child will be later touching. They offhandedly suggested possibly Earth Paint and suddenly I knew I had to know more!

This 100% made in the USA paint is the product of years of research and experience by Artist Leah Fanning Mebane. After years of working with paints and knowing the ingredients they contained from fungicide to chemicals that caused her allergies and headaches. She was set on helping the planet and living in a way more true to her heart and her art. She thankfully shares her passion with the rest of us!

Each batch of paint is hand-made, non-toxic, and she trusts it so much she has no issues doing this when pregnant even. While I was lucky enough to get in contact with Leah about reviewing this product her husband is also a part of all this wonderfulness. He is an environmentalist and nature lover too!

When we got this cute package it was very hard to keep the kids from jumping right it. Everything you need but the water, paint brushes, and paper are included in this kit all neat and easy to use. I wanted to use them first alone though to get a feel for them before my children jumped in.

One night up late with the kids asleep I found the perfect time to work on a wood project I had in mind. I love to make little felt gnomes with these little wooden figures but I wanted to try just painting them some solid colors for play. This paint is safe and I can’t really find any others I would trust honestly so I went for it!

The mix is easy, one part paint, one part water! Make just as much as you will need as this is Milk Paint. It will last about a week in the fridge! Mixing up colors was not hard at all. I think next time I might put it in baby food jars and let the kids shake them to mix them up! This paint is made much the same way paints have been made for 40,000 years and something about that just seems all the more special.

My husband then found himself up painting these little guys with me too!

You can see we had different ideas on how to get these covered! In the end we got them all colored and lovely! We found the blue had a personality all its own and that all colors came off skin with just a towel even but brown. None of the color was hard to wash off skin or the table. It was a lot of fun and I was sure the kids would love it. Taking an idea out of the booklet that comes with this kit the children a few days later did this:

This project was enjoyed by our 4, 6, and 13-year-old!

They had a wonderful time with this vibrant paint and all the leaves they had collected. I had no worry about them getting it on themselves for a change, or on the table for that matter. When they had finished they felt the need to paint some more so of course we let them!

  1. That’s so cool! Did the paint dry well on the wood? I’ve been wanting to paint some toys for the kids but I wasn’t sure what was a safe kind of paint. Now I know! 🙂 Thanks for the review this was really helpful!

It did dry well on the wood and what we learned is that with the wood, less is more else it might chip later!

I think it’s cool that there is a paint specifically for kids. I wish they had this type of wall paint as well! I get headaches and can’t be around when someone is painting a house.

Thanks for the review! When I get grand kids, I’ll know what paint to purchase for them
