Every season brings new inspiration for crafting with kids and we are excited about fall kid crafting! One of the biggest noticeable changes in many places in fall is the changing of the leaves.

Fall Kid Craft

With that in mind we picked this fall kid craft because our youngest is learning about the changing of trees in her pre-k curriculum Blossom & Root. She is learning about color changes. Most kids know their colors in pre-k and she does know them but most kids are learning that certain colors are more abundant in certain seasons. This is also a great fall kid craft as our middle daughters are working on Trees and photosynthesis in science in their curriculum Moving Beyond the Page. The timing is perfect and this fall art kid craft project fits right in.

Creating Fall Button Tree with Kids

Remind the kids what colors they see a lot of in fall and what changes occur specifically with the trees outside. Help them pick the colors for their canvas fall kids craft button tree, the sky being blue and the tree bark being brown. Your colors of course could be anything, it is art after all! Help very little ones with a basic outline.

As the Blossom and Root curriculum suggests the use of q-tips in art sometimes, we used them again in this project to help color the ground with fall colors to give the impression of leaves.

After the paint is dry comes the button time. I got the majority of our buttons off of Amazon for this project. After our pre-schooler sorted fall colors from not fall colors the gluing of the buttons started.

At first I thought the best plan of action was to put glue on a paper plate to dip the back of buttons into. This though proved very messy, and buttons kept getting glue from sticky fingers on both sides. We had a few buttons glued in some unintentional spots and it was rather funny, and thankfully with washable kids glue, it was also not hard to fix.

The best way to glue the buttons to the canvas turned out to be just adding a dab right from the bottle right onto the canvas and then applying the button. The glue dries clear in the end so even with the glue coming up through the buttonholes, it ends up looking fantastic!

This project spanned a few days and everyone in the house got to add buttons and their own style to the fall button tree. I think it came out beautifully!

The fall button tree has been added to our new Memory Wall, this is a not a work in progress as we gather images of loved ones gone to add to the wall and move things around to fit the way we would like. We love how it is coming out so far!
