Fall Acorn Craft and PreK Number Learning with Blossom and Root

Fall Acorn Craft and PreK Number Learning with Blossom and Root

This year we are using the Pre-School Curriculum from Blossom & Root. Early Years Vol. 2 (recommended for ages 4 – 5). We picked this curriculum because it is nature-based and play-based, very hands-on and is fits into secular homeschooling. Our Fall Acorn Craft fits right in with this curriculum!

This curriculum includes:

  • Nature Study
  • Art
  • Literiture
  • Early Literacy
  • STEM
  • Math
  • Music Appreciation

This curriculum is affordable, has a vibrant active online community for support, and just beautifully done! It also doesn’t push little ones past the level their development is at. Far too many programs are advanced and doing more harm than good in early childhood education. With much research and 14 years homeschooling, I really feel like Blossom and Root is a well balanced pre-K curriculum that follows a child’s interests, grows their skills, doesn’t push hard, and gives just the right amount of structure. Normally we do not teach pre-school actually and we let the littles learn through whatever play interests them but with this particular little one, she does well with more structure.

Such a beautiful and simple and loved fall craft with the kids!

Fall Acorn Craft

All that being said, this brings me to one of our first fall crafts for the year! Making marble acorns! This fall craft for kids has been used in three ways.

  1. Adorable Marble Acorn Necklaces
  2. Marble Acorn Stick Fall Wall Decorations
  3. Marble Acorn Math Manipulatives for Pre-K Number Learning (with Blossom & Root)

This is an adorable fall craft project and the supplies are rather simple and easy to get!

Fall Acorn Craft – Marbles and Acorns Instructions

Step One: Gather Acorn Tops — This can be a challenge depending on where you live but many places have these tree seeds in the fall. Indeed it is near impossible where we live to take a walk and not find them underfoot! I was inspired the other night while watching a far off storm with one of my children outside to do something with acorns. You see we had rushed out of the house without shoes and that proved a mistake in the dark with the sidewalks being covered in acorns painful to step on! They are everywhere, if you can’t find them in your area I suggest asking about them on your social media as I would bet someone you know could help you acquire some!

I also suggest trying to find just the tops if possible, or taking the nut part out of the acorn and leaving those outside for the animals that depend on them for nutrition. Also, take some of your marbles with you so that your children can size up the marbles you have with the acorns they find!

Step Two: Glue Marbles Into Acorn Tops — This is rather simple and can be done with a variety of glue. I would suggest with young children to use washable liquid kid glue. With older kids we used a hot glue gun. I am partial to hot glue guns thanks to my very crafty and creative mother and the crafts she let me help with growing up! I love you dearly Mom, thank you for trying to give me a magical childhood when we could be together. Some of the things the kids love about most about my mothering skills I got from you! — Iva Roedl

  Make Math Manipulatives!

Now you have adorable Math Manipulatives perfect for little hands and celebrating fall! Fall Acorn Craft — These marble acorns are beautiful, easy to use for counting, adding and subtracting. About 50 seem to be a good number for pre-K math, at least for our uses at this point using Blossom and Root!

Step Three: If making the stick fall decoration project or the acorn marble necklace you will need to attach string! We again used the hot glue gun for this! This isn’t difficult for big kids but be careful no one burns themselves!

Step Four: For the fall marble acorn necklaces just tie the string with a large enough loop and then children can pull the necklaces over their heads. Of course, this is not for little kids unsupervised and never for kids sleeping! The kids made enough of these for their friends too and everyone loved them! They might make a cute party favor for a birthday party or even a good Halloween non-candy item to give out!

 Make Beautiful Fall Decor!

If you are making the fall stick decor item like we did, just tie the acorn marbles on your stick and then display them! It is so beautiful and makes all of us smile!

And just in case you need some more acorn crafting cuteness, the kids made this one last year because there are never enough acorns in the house!
