Fact or Fake? Callista Gingrich gets Breastfeeding mother arrested!

This afternoon a “news” story crossed my desk and I was quick to share it with my readers because I know it is a topic that is relevant to crunchy parenting. However soon after I posted it, I went looking for further details and could find none. This caused me to pull the post I shared.
My apologies for sharing something without first fact checking. I am normally very good at that.

It is not against the law to breastfeed in public in Virginia … I did it with my own son who is now 5.

    § 18.2-387. Indecent exposure.

Every person who intentionally makes an obscene display or exposure of his person, or the private parts thereof, in any public place, or in any place where others are present, or procures another to so expose himself, shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. No person shall be deemed to be in violation of this section for breastfeeding a child in any public place or any place where others are present.

Correct, this was another reason why this story lacks credibility. It seems this “news” story is fake. I am not sure why the person who wrote it did so, they fooled a lot of us.

There are only three states without breastfeeding protection laws, and VA is not one of them!
