Enjoy Spring Fishing With Kids

It is no secret that modern society has taken most of us far from nature and some of us are struggling to get back to it. Too many children are not at all excited or interested in the outside world anymore and as parents it is our job to help them to connect to nature. It can be hard with our busy lives but Spring time is a great time to embrace the reminder to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and beauty and challenges that come with the great outdoors.

With Spring here in Georgia it is a great time to go fishing. Honestly my husband and I haven’t been fishing since our own childhoods and it was about time that we get back to it and share the joy and skills with our own kids. While 2 of our oldest went off on spring vacation we took our youngers out into the world to go fishing.

(fishing while baby was napping was fantastic!)

First thing was to get the fishing licenses, we got them online. Next we got a needed recreation pass for a special county fishing area. We gathered supplies like fishing poles and bait. I even prepared by watching youtube videos on the best ways to remove hooks from flesh, because I remember a few accidents growing up!

So far so good, we have managed a few small keeper fish!

Fishing Fish Bluegill

We learned that fishing with kids is slow going, they have short attention spans. They need space to run and play and even through rocks in the water. Chances are they are going to get wet so bringing a towel or 2 can be helpful. Baby wipes too, even I can’t stand worm guts on my hands for more than a minute! IMG_1918 Patience little Jedi, the fish will come!

The memories from childhood are coming back and I love them so much. I am not great at fishing just yet, none of us are, but we are learning together and we love that.
