Have an eco-friendly holiday adventure!

Did you know that over 23 million Americans alone are expecting to fly over the Thanksgiving holiday? Are you one of them or have you picked out some greener earth friendly plans? While my family normally drives a few hundred miles to see family this year we have other plans and it is so nice that staying closer to home helps the planet a bit, even if we will be missing family. Thankfully we will be seeing them again for the next holiday.

Staying close to home, making an eco-friendly choice, does not mean not having a wonderful holiday though. What about changing things up and having an adventure? There are people who pack up all their camping equipment and go on a trail hike and enjoy what the local wilderness has to offer. Sometimes they take horses or alpaca even. I can’t say I am an avid camper, with small children it has been hard over the years but that doesn’t stop some of our friends at all and goodness I envy them for how brave and talented they are to handle it all in the woods.

With the weather getting colder here, a few things to remember to pack:

Tent of Course

Forty Below Bag

Flannel Clothing

Camping Stove

Camping Cookware

Water Poof Matches or Flint

Wool Socks

Wool Outer Wear and Silk Under Clothing

Food to last longer than you think you will need, just in case!

Emergency Handbook!

– If you bring horses or go to a stable to use horses there be sure to bring everything they will need as well, don’t forget that you will need a protective horse riding hat like these GPA riding hats from equestrian clearance and food for the horses as well! If your not used to such an adventure, hire a guide from a stable to help make sure you have everything you need covered.

This is not a full list, but an idea of plans to help you get started! Our plans here are not set in stone yet, partially because the military has changed plans for my husband on us and because he wants to help serve food to deployed families this holiday as part of his thankfulness for being home with us and not deployed himself. I am sure we will come up with an adventure of our own, going to a beach that is not too far away that has wild horses is really calling to me!

I hope your able to add some great eco-friendly choices to your holidays this year, feel free to tell me about them in comments below!

I love camping and haven’t been in awhile! It is so hot here in Texas that camping can be unbearable if you don’t go the right time of the year.
