Day 99 — 11 month old Development

Everyday we try and focus special time on each child. For our baby, this is specially fun these days. We went from helping her to sit up, to now helping her stand. She is not yet pulling up but this is ok. She really loves the special attention.

I do not believe developmental lists are the end all be all of parenting, I do think though they can be incredibility helpful in giving ideas on how to play with baby.

A few things an 11 month old should be doing is:

Identifying words to people, such as Mama and Dada.

Place baby 10 feet from a door way. Mommy and Daddy behind it, they can take turns saying Mama and Dada and stepping into the room. Have Mama say Dada and have him step through. Of course this can be done with Mama and Mommy or Dada and Daddy or Granda and Grandpa or Aunty. Whom ever makes up the family and are important in the childs life.

Copy Cat!
Try claping and pointing and making funny sounds. Nodding yes and no and doing giggle dances. See what baby picks up. Do something and wait 30 seconds to see if baby can process it. It might not happen then, it might not happen for a few days but suddenly baby will be wiggling around making you giggle too out of the blue. It is just a joy to see.

Turning Pages
I will forever be shouting the joys of books. I adore them. My 11 month old does as well. She is turning pages, often more than a few but she is a very fast and physical baby. Board books are still perfect for her. At least unlike her oldest sister, she is not trying to eat them! LOL
