Day 3 — Sick Day

This is a snap shot of my sick day. I wasn’t all together down and out, in fact the little ones where feeling much worse. One of the wonderful things about homeschooling is that we can take what time we need to recover, we can learn in bed, on the floor, in bathtub even. I was blessed to have my husband home and help to care for the littles. Mr. Handsome spent the day playing on the Wii with Hope Pixie in between reading books, dancing, and munching on what ever they could find.

I spent more of the day than I would like being grumpy about this new to us house. We moved to Fort Meade MD the last month of November. Called on the 3rd of December to get Comcast internet, they send someone out on the 6th and discovered the wire outside, the box, was GONE. I think the people here before with no real yard tied their dog to the stairs near the box and the dog dug up the wire and box and it was cut right on the wall going in the house and nothing outside, and well the evidence of a dog that was not well looked after… ewwww. So they told us they had to get a crew out to dig a new line, soon. I called and called and was told it would be on the 13th of the month at 8am. I waited, it was so hard as I adore the internet, the search for new information and I adore reading. We drove around once a day looking for Wifi honestly. I used my husbands droid a lot for internet when home. No online homeschooling could be done. It was really effecting me emotionally to feel so disconnected. I finally found a way to set my husband droid up for free to be a hotspot for our laptops. Slow, but not as slow as dial up and it worked. In the photo you can see it connected to the computer and me on facebook.

That was the day that Facebook again took down the site The Leaky Book. I love the site, it is breastfeeding support that I personally badly need, but that’s a post for another day. The owner bravely faced public TV news and worked hard to get the site back up. It worked. Breastfeeding is normal, it is not sexual, anyone who thinks it is anything obscene needs to get a mental health check because thinking something sexual while seeing a baby normally eat has a mental illness. A strong statement I am aware, but one I feel strongly about. Breastfeeding is hard enough as is, darn near impossible for a few, and no mother needs to have to worry about someone watching and judging her. They can have the self control to not look or remind their rational brains that it is best for baby and natural and healthy and far cleaner than cow milk!

Back to the photo, you can see my sheets, fantastic color right? 🙂 Also note the essential oil. I believe they helped keep me from getting very sick and kept my children from developing a worse cough/cold. I wish I would have had them when on vacation when the colds started, not just now near the end. I also believe that Oscillococcinum helped prevent Mr Handsome and Hope Pixie and Wonderhubby from getting sick at all. If only the girls and I had take it as they had at the start of feeling unwell! I had not brought enough on vacation, silly me thought we would not get sick as we seem to do when on vacation! Wonderhubby did go out and get some on vacation but we did not give any to baby as she is not on solids and Storm baby being the 3 year old she is plays more with it than eats it!

Sick days at our house include more than just over the counter medications. Some I swear by, others I am still working out. I will share more about the essential oils in another post!

Back to Comcast, so on the 13th I called at 10am to ask where the work crew was. I talked to a very rude woman who said I just need to wait around, that she doesn’t know. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me no. I told her I had waited 10 days for internet and still had no idea when I would get it, I had bills to pay, things that needed doing, friends due with babies that I had to bug online and so I needed to talk to a manager, someone who could tell me when I would have internet. She hung up. I called through out the day 12 times, spending more than 3 hours on hold. Some had me call numbers to talk to managers for different areas, some had me talk to voice mails and said they would call back, 2 put in e-mails to the work crew manager to call me and said they had to in 15 minutes. No calls came to me. Finally the last person I talked to that day told me it could take 15-30 days to get the lines in. I cried. I really honestly did. All I had wanted for my birthday was internet, it didn’t happen. And so we left on vacation on the 20th of December and for near 2 weeks I enjoyed internet at my parents house! Back home though… still no internet here BUT there are wires outside now so for now back to useing Droid to get online till Comcast comes to install. Wish they would let me do it myself!

In closing

Yes breastfeeding is best and not obsene!
Yes Comcast in this area sucks and their customer service is Horrible!
