Day 172 — Co-Sleeping

There is nothing else like cuddling your own baby. Moments like these I wish the world would stop spinning so I could enjoy it longer. They grow up so fast.

For now though, my baby is a baby. She still sleeps in our room and many nights in our bed. We practice safe co-sleeping. I could explain this but chances are if your reading this you already know how to safely do this. If you don’t know about co-sleeping here are a few things to consider, maybe they will spark your interest enough to go looking into this topic yourself. And not just swallowing the media koolaid with the rest of the sheeple.

“That the highest rates of bedsharing worldwide occur alongside the lowest rates of infant mortality, including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) rates, is a point worth returning to.”

“Instead, irrepressible (ancient) neurologically-based infant responses to maternal smells, movements and touch altogether reduce infant crying while positively regulating infant breathing, body temperature, absorption of calories, stress hormone levels, immune status, and oxygenation.” — Resource Here

In short we are made to co-sleep. I (we) love to cuddle our babies while they sleep because we are biologically supposed to. They need it for a number of reasons.

Yes, I slept in a crib, yes I survived and am fine. But was it the very best? I want to do what is the best for my children and I think nature paves the way for co-sleeping.

I am not sure how long baby will sleep in our room. I do know we will cuddle her when she needs us because parenting doesn’t stop at bed time. Our near 4 year old sometimes cuddles in our bed in the middle of the night. A few times it has gotten interesting. Baby, then Daddy, then toddler, then Mommy. Yes I have been kicked off the bed before. LOL It however is worth it.

Before one judges those who co-sleep please consider that there are dangerous ways to drive and safe ways, and yet we still drive! There are safe ways to co-sleep and there are dangerous ways, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it the safe way because some have failed and done it the dangerous ways.
