Contemplating Blinds for Kids Room

I wish I could tell you what the best blinds or shades are for a child’s bedroom. This really requires seeing the room, knowing the child, and knowing the family routines. I can share the adventure though I am having trying to find what works best for one of the children’s rooms in my home.
For the night owls in our home black out curtains sound like a good idea, they wake up late and these would let them sleep in. They would however not be any fun for playing in their room during the day and to save electricity and be greener we want to use as much natural light as possible so the curtains need to be easy to move and be secure. Maybe blinds would be better?
As it turns out blinds and mini-blinds come in colors and vary in how much light they let even when closed. To do with the room I think we would go with dark blue mini blinds. For young children it is a waldorf understanding that reds are better than blues though. I think we would still go with blue with the idea of letting the children sleep in with dark colors and pulling them up when the children get up too.
I learned there are motorized blinds now, no need for me to remember to open and close them and an easy way to not let the children sleep in too late. You can program them!
I still have not decided for sure. I need to find out more about how cost effective they will be. I need to research safety for them in a child’s room, and need to find them in dark blue!

  1. Programmable blinds are exactly what I need! I love the look of open blinds but hate going back through the house at night and closing them all, so they don’t always get used:(
