Book Review By My Daughter — Miss Fortune

My dear lovely daughter wrote a review I thought I would share with you all.

Poison Apple #3: Miss Fortune – By Brandi Dougherty

Review By: Crystal (HopePixie)

I read this book a while ago and I loved it so much that I thought I would tell you about it. It is about a girl who is 12 years old named Zoe. She goes to a carnival with her best friend and accidentally insults a real fortune teller who then calmly curses Zoe and hands a locket. Zoe doesn’t know she is cursed at first but then things start happening to her.

Zoe lives a life very different than mine. Her parents are divorced and I can’t even picture that. She only has one older brother that is hardly in the book and I have lots of sisters and a brother not to mention I am the oldest. Being the oldest is just different and it has it’s pro’s and con’s. Will explain more about that in a minute. One of the things Zoe and I do have in common is that she has a great friend and I have one too. Together Zoe and her friend have one heck of a summer.

This book made me laugh a lot and a few times maybe I even cried. I felt really bad when Zoe went off the road on her bike and when a mallet fell on her foot. I was running and tripped in the mountains last year and had to be carried out of the woods by other people. It was embarrassing and painful and I broke 3 bones in my foot. I have to have surgery on that foot again soon and I am really seriously not looking forward to it. Poor Zoe and her poor foot! All because of the curse. I am not sure Zoe even meant to be rude to the fortune teller. Maybe I am cursed too? Shortly after I broke my foot a few people I know broke theirs too so maybe I passed the curse on. Sorry about that, no, really. LOL

Lots of bad things happen to Zoe in the book. She gets blamed for things she didn’t even do. Did I mention I am the oldest child in the family so I am used to getting blamed for things I didn’t do. My parents will ask the little kids “who did something” and they will all say it was me even if it wasn’t. I don’t think my parents always believe them but it doesn’t feel good to get blamed. I will admit though I have blamed them for things too even before they could talk. Maybe this is karma!

“Dad, the baby ate all the cookies and made crumbs in my bed!” He didn’t believe me. Would you? Come on now, it was once her fault. Really.

Zoe couldn’t explain who’s fault it was though when it wasn’t really hers. She got embarrassed and I felt even worse for her. No little siblings to blame in that case!

The book ends though on a happy note and Zoe gets a Date. I love the supernatural story line and dates sound fun. I couldn’t date at 12 though. I am almost 14 and still not dating much to my parents joy. Sorry Dad, it will happen before I am 30 years old, you can’t stop me from growing up! (Please don’t curse me!) LOL

If you love stories about weird things happening, this story is for you!

  1. Crystal,
I loved this review! I am pretty sure you are not cursed! LOL Accidents do happen, to some of us more than others I think.

The book sound great and one I just may have to read.

As far as you dating, yeah, most likely you will at some point but let your parents be happy you are not right now. *winks* For now, just enjoy.

By the way, I am the oldest too. I understand that burden sometimes. 🙂
