Birth Story: After Weeks Of Early Labor

Birth Story By: Hope Nichole Ortigo

After several weeks of early labor, and very slow changes, and 4 trips to l&d… I start timing my contractions on August 13, mid afternoon… After several hours of every 7 mins, they drop down to every 5 mins and the pain intensifies, I decide around 8pm that I need to go to l&d cause these contractions feel different… My mom meets me there (as my hubby is at work) and I get checked at around 9:45, 10… And I was only a 3 :-/ I’d been a 3 for 2 plus weeks…. So they hook me to the monitors and watch me.

I was having contractions every 5 mins and they were fairly painful. About 45 mins later they check me again, my dr was actually there, checked me before the nurse did and asked her to check me again… I had gone from a 3 to a 5-6 in 45 mins… So they admit me. My hubby, his mom and sister, and my bff all head to the hospital, all 2 hrs away… I asked for iv pain meds about 2 and a half hours later, was a solid 6… They did NOT touch the back labor I was having, but they knocked me out for a few… Woke up after about an hour. (i wasn’t watching the time real close, I think it was about 3-4am now) I had dilated on out to 7.5cm and asked for the epidural because the back labor was killing me. Thus far I haven’t had any help besides staydol. No pit or anything. My epidural doesn’t take effect right away, by the time it does, I’m at 8.5 and they are starting pitocin already, to help with after birth.

At 9.5cm my dr gets ready to break my water and it breaks on its own! It’s now 6am. They tell me to push with the next contraction. So the next contraction hits… Push… Count to 10, her head is out, quick breath push to 10 again, shoulders almost out, quick breath, push to 10 again and baby is here! Lol I only pushed thru one contraction, 3 pushes, less than 1 minute I believe… And she came at 6:04 am… Just 10 hours after I decided i needed to go in. And only 6 hrs after they decided I was in active labor. No problems, perfectly healthy baby girl at 37 weeks and 1 day. Weighed 5lbs 13 oz and is perfect.
