Back to Cyber Schooling

It was late, 1am kind of late, and my teenager was still awake. She was clearly excited and nervous and she couldn’t sleep. Her eyes glittered in the dark room and she near bounced up and down telling me about how much she looked forward to the next morning. She was going into highschool, online, and her class of 11 students held 9 souls she didn’t know anything about except that they are like her in that they are homeschooled. She was eager to get to know them. She was excited to learn about her teacher, and she was ready to jump into a new school year to learn many more new things.

She had taken her first standardized test of her life earlier that day. It was a new requirement for her cyber school and nerves had driven her to wait till the very last minute to get it down. Her results though made all our hearts sing. Having been homeschooled her whole life except for a year of cyber school some how she came away as being on the 12th grade level in most areas, but needing improvement on spelling. We can work with that! She beamed as she told her father all about it and I beamed as I sent the results off to her school. I didn’t mess her up homeschooling her I couldn’t help but thing to myself.

So a new year has started, one that we hope will be filled with learning and adventure and following passions. Also though, another year of family closeness. We are lucky that this year unlike so many in the past should not be filled with deployments or moves. This year we all just want to learn together. Daddy has his cyber security thing going on, I have more than my fair share of childhood education learning I am doing and also homesteading practice with the animals and gardens. As for our younger kids, that is a whole other post!

My sparkle eyed teenager is busy now, deeply focused on her new teacher and the lecture while she is all bundled up in chilly room. Her assignment for the newest class novel already done even though it isn’t due till tomorrow.

Yes, this is going to be a great school year!
