September 11 – What was your least favorite subject in school?
I had to think about this one for a long time. Over and over I kept thinking I didn’t have a least favorite. I loved learning. So I have to go with the one I found to be the hardest, that was Spanish and then French. I have no aptitude for languages. The romance languages I tried to learn are only lvl 2 and I know English well enough. Ironically English is the only lvl 4 language. The lower the number the easier it is. Why can I not learn more simply languages? I wish I knew.
Maybe this personal experience of wanting so badly to learn these other languages and not being able is one of the reasons I am Liberal about immigration policy. Yes, I think those who come to our country should try to learn English but it they can’t…. they should still be welcome. Chances are they will live in a community that does speak the language they already know and they can prosper too.
I know immigration is a hot topic for some because of the job market but the fact of the matter is that often immigrants do the jobs others don’t want or think are below them. I think the more important topic for the job market is out sourcing. There is far more of that going on and it is being done TO us by corporate america. Those that have off shore accounts and use every tax trick in the books to not pay their fair amount of taxes are the issue, not the poor people trying to feed their children.
