Are You A Little Crunchy or A Lot?

Today I am feeling a little Crunchy. Why? Because I feel like death and rather than reaching for alternative health options I begged my husband for sudafed and I refuse to even look up the side effects or why it might be bad for me. This is not my crunchiest day ever. Thus the name of this blog, a little crunchy. Some days, a little crunchy is the best I can hope for!

You might not be feeling this badly today though (Goodness I hope not) and so you can still be out there inspiring others and saving the world. I picture you at a farmers market showing your child how to ask the right questions to make sure the farmer is growing organic and is not just a middle man for industrial tainted produce. (It happens more than you think!) or maybe your elbow deep in rich healthy soil of your own garden! Maybe your recycling an old shed door into a new coffee table! Maybe your sitting under a tree reading your favorite book with someone you adore! Maybe your sewing your 10th cloth diaper for the day, or maybe changing your 10th cloth diaper of the day. Maybe your hanging laundry you washed by hand. Maybe your sitting comfy in your bed after an amazing water birth! These are just some of the things I know I have friends doing today, crunchy things that sound far more wonderful than me laying around in bed on medication.

You don’t have to be super crunchy to make a difference! I think though that being different is the real start. Our society does things that are just so harmful to the planet, to ourselves even, and those things are seen as normal so we don’t even question. If you want to make a difference, you have to risk being different. It’s worth it!

I never heard of the term crunchy until I was reading my birth board while I was expecting my son’s arrival two years ago. I consider myself only to be semi-crunchy. I breastfed my son until he was 18 months old and that was about it. I would love to buy only organic products because they don’t use the pesticides and additives but on a modest budget I can’t do that.
