Are all GMO’s Bad?

I was invited to sign a petition to show concern over GMO’s and to ask for foods be labeled as such. I do this when ever I see them because I do not believe that GMO’s in our food supply have been studies enough. I mean grains and fruits and veggies are being genetically changes so as to kill bugs, resist certain illness themselves, and produce like we have never seen before. There are no long term studies on health on this.

There was more than just being asked to petition for GMO labeling though and I find I have more questions than answers and I worry that some are not interested in questions, they simply think anything GMO is evil. I am not so sure.

“Organic Consumers Association invites you to Join the Frankenfish Global Day of Action – Feb 9!

Activists are gearing up for a Feb. 9 Global Day of Action to stop FDA approval of AquaBounty Technologies Inc.’s genetically engineered salmon. A coalition of anti-GMO organizations, including LabelGMOs and GMOFreeUSA, is urging people to organize rallies and honk-and-waves, go door-to-door with flyers, and leaflet in front of grocery stores. Of course, a Global Day of Action is only as powerful as the people who get out there in the streets to make it happen. You can help by joining thousands who plan to call the FDA on Friday, Feb. 1, and by planning your own Stop Frankenfish rally or other action.

My reply: I am really torn about this… eating wild salmon like we would like to do, well so many kinds are not extinct and they are on the verge of being gone forever. We are failing to save the rest. While GMO for grains and vaggies and fruits in large part have to do with killing off bugs, I wonder what the GMO goal is for the salmon? Considering the brink salmon are one shouldn’t we be fighting just as hard to stop people from eating them at all? GMO for animals is much like selective breeding right? Please tell me if I am wrong. I am all for labeling and I don’t like the idea of GMOs for food but I think Genetics might well save many animals on this planet… I think we need more information and I think we need to take care with blanket ideas. If we can genetically cure illness and cancer, will we call those people frankenPeople?

So far, the responses I have gotten have not been really helpful with these questions:

  • Ernie Mink —  there is no open true cure for cancer, only those being kept from us. I have known secret societies such as the Illuminati and Sinanju/Dragon societies had cures for many years, longer than the public realizes. We do NOT need ANYTHING genetic, PERIOD
  • Sue Ledbetter — I beat IBC naturally, no chemo, no drugs, nothing. It’s all about cleaning out the body full of toxins, juicing, eating whole foods, etc. Keep your body alkaline, cancer can’t live there.
My Reply to them both — While I am glad you beat cancer without medical help I personally know a chiropractor that did everything right, is very alkaline and has been for years and still cancer took over her body. But again, that was not the point. How about down syndrome, type 1 diabetes  are there secret societies curing those as well? I am sorry, soon as one brings up the illuminati and not real science, you lose me. Have you come up with a way to save the salmon because billions has been spent trying and we are still failing.

       FrankenFood

While I don’t like the idea of frankenfood anymore than most people, I think we need to take care to not make blanket statements and close our minds off to what could be, in some cases, good science. We have domesticated over thousands years animals as food and pets. Animals where breed together for their temperament, meat, and coats. GMO can be like this but at a more basic level. It doesn’t hope the off spring will get certain traits, it makes sure they will. I think the trouble comes when we are putting DNA from other kinds of animals, or viruses, or bacteria and then not having long term studies on the effects. There is the line to be drawn? If we can cure type 1 diabetes with genetic modification will people really consider those cured FrankenPeople? I am worried they might…. It is hard enough it seems to get big pharma to come up with cures rather than long term treatments!

Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and questions here!
