Almost Hatching Time!

The Eggs Are About To Hatch!

Chicken eggs take about 21 days to hatch. On Friday we went into lockdown on the incubator, meaning we stopped turning the eggs and opening the top of the incubator. That was day 18. The reason is to keep the humidity up inside so that the eggs inside do not dry out and kill the chicks.

This is our first year trying to hatch chickens, the past two years we have hatched ducklings. Those take longer to hatch!

We don’t know what kinds of chickens we have in these eggs, there are so many different kinds of eggs so your guess is as good as mine!

Speaking of guesses….

ChickenEggLockdown

By looking at past blog posts about these eggs you can find images of some of them being candles and other information that might help educate your guessing a bit! Be sure to hunt those posts down and check them out!

EggX

This is egg X is very porous and porous eggs we are told do not often hatch. Do you think he will? When we candled him we didn’t see any movement inside but that is not uncommon this far along (Day 18)

EggL

This is egg L, a small little peach colored egg. Lots of movement in this one!

Happy Guessing and Happy Spring Time!
