A busy dog is a happy dog! – Tips with a Twist

This post is sponsored by JW Twist-In Treats but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Get a dog they said, it will be fun they said! — And it is! Only it is like having another child! Some people get annoyed when people call their pets kids, but those annoyed people might have forgotten what puppy life is all about. Being a Mom of many I have to agree that yes, having a puppy is a lot of change and work so much like having a children, from potty training, to manners to messy foods, things broken, and tantrums even it seems! We are still in the thick of things here with our 1 year old labrador retriever! One thing is very clear, a busy dog, is a happy dog! This makes for a happy home too!

Adding a dog to our family has been life changing!

Keeping this big dog busy and happy in a small house with no fenced yard is a challenge. I think many pet owners have challenges, situations not very ideal. The online groups are flooded with people asking for advice. Why? Because we love our pets and want to do the very best for them! Time and again the advice, beyond good training, is keep your pets busy!

TIP: Crazy Dog Advice — Keep Your Pet Busy! – With a Twist

My new with a twist tip is simple and fell into my lap actually. While also looking for the best toys and treats for our dog (just like I do for our kids!) The Twist-In Treat Dog Toy by Petmate caught my attention!

You see I hope to spend as much time outside, in that fenceless yard I spoke about earlier with the kids, and of course the dog. I want to reading my hammock though and that is often hard with a dog who can and will jump on with me between running around like he crazy. Getting him to be calm, even after a great run or walk is still a challenge, he just gets so excited, just when I want some down time. So of course giving him a treat is a good idea right?

Twist-In Treat Dog Toys helps treat time last longer! It keeps dogs busy so it keeps dogs happy!

A Busy Dog is a Happy Dog!

I learned you can even add two treats to the toy for longer treat time, the treats that I buy as refills come in two flavors: chicken and bacon.  It’s fantastic being able to change the difficulty, with just a twist, making treat time last even longer. I like that this toy is really holding up to a lot of attention and play, it is really durable. Busy dog, happy dog, means more pages that can be read by Mom! This makes for happy Mom too!

Good clean indoor fun for our Pup.

While of course the best way to keep him busy is outside and running and playing, we all need down time too. And sometimes it is just too hot outside!

While I am focused on happy active kids this summer and busy happy dog, and getting in a lot of reading time, these treats of course aren’t just for that! Think keeping the dog happy during family movie time, or game night, or even keeping him busy during dinners when the dog might otherwise be begging for treats.

I hope this dog life tip helps!

What things could you be doing while your dog enjoys and extra long treat time?

  1. Oh yes! If they are distracted, they’re happy!! I know this trick all too well since I grew up with so many dogs!

  2. Whenever my dog has something to work out to get the treat I can actually sit down and relax for a few minutes LOL. Our dog is still a puppy and just loves to play. I will play with her all day long but sometimes I need a break too LOL. I need something like this so that she can entertain herself.

  3. I have 3 dogs and they get bored so easily. This looks like it would keep them entertained for longer than those “other ones”.

I don’t have a fur baby however, if I did I would surely purchase these. And use the time to read a book.

  5. Too cute! My kids would love a dog, but I insist on cats. I’m not sure if I’d have patience for a dog, but I agree, pets should be kept busy to stay happy. I know my cats love their toys!

  6. I have two dogs and I amguilty of not keeping them busy and they tend to stay in one place or sleep. I love these Twist in Treats and dogs really seem to take to them.

  7. I have had a dog in my life for over 40 years. I’ve learned that if YOU don’t keep the pup busy, he will find ways to be busy! Like chewing on your sofa.

    • And chewing your walls and of course all the shoes but why my books… why must he chew my books? LOL

  8. Aww! It’s good to have some ways to keep the pups happy and entertained. They have so much energy!

  9. This is such a great idea for keeping pup busy, especially on hot summer afternoons when playtime is better done inside!

What a cute dog! I don’t have any dogs, but I do have cats. I think it’s great to keep them as happy as you can. The littlest things can really make them happy too.

  13. I need to get some of these for my dogs. They gobble their treats up so fast, I wonder if they even enjoy them. These would really help them to savor treats a little longer.
