I feel anticipation building and building. The world seems alight and busy with wedding plans for little sister and her love. Just 3 more days and the big event will be here. Beautiful dresses in all the colors of the rainbows, friends and family, and love.
All weddings are special, but this one I promise is even more so. My sister is going to marry a girl. I love that my children can be in her wedding and a part of this celebration because it means so much to me to be able to raise them and give them experiences like this so that they can grow up loving others in a world even if they are a bit different. Though who can tell at this age who my children will marry themselves when they are older! It could well be a gay a marriage too. For now though we live in a world where gay people face hate, do not have equal rights in many parts of the country, and where some restaurants will ask them to leave if they hold hands in public.
Like slavery, I hope homophobia becomes taboo, not socially acceptable any longer. There are still racist people of course but I do not believe we have a racist society. Sadly our society is not yet accepting of the fact that love is love. My children are though and that is a good place to start. They love their new Auntie and she is a very welcome addition to the family. I couldn’t ask for a better sister in law!
