Some people love their feet and some people hate their feet but all people must care for their feet regardless. They will take us where we want to go but they will not take care of themselves! While we are all out enjoying the beaches and pools this summer, lets make sure we pay attention to our toes in the sand!

Tip #1 – Start with a foot soak!

Soaking your feet is not just about relaxing. While that is very much an added bonus, the real point is to treat the whole foot and the skin. Feet have a tough job and they go through a lot. They can get infections, and up with fungal issues, and really cause us a lot of pain if we are not careful.

  • 1 Fresh squeezed lemon
  • 1 table spoon honey
  • 2 table spoons coconut oil
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • Squirt of favorite body soap

Mix together and add to a small tub then fill with warm/hot water. Let soak for 10 minutes!

Tip #2 – Get a good skin brush!

Even if you don’t have time to soak your feet, you should take the time to scrub them after washing them. Use a rather stiff body brush to remove the dead skin and layers of possible germs and bacteria. Do not scrub too hard! Brush the toes as well, including the cuticle area, do not push he cuticle back on the toes, you could damage them leading to more issues!

Tip #3 – Know what Nail Fungus is and what to look out for!

Nail fungal infections start off as a white or yellow spot on the tip of the nail. As it develops, the nail may become thickened, brittle/crumbly/ragged, change shape, become darker in color, or get dull. It will sometimes fall off!

Tip #4 — Get your Feet the Help they deserve!

While you could try home remedies for fungal infections like tea tree oil and orange oil rubbed into the nails and toes, if things seem out of control, try something like Zetaclear to help you clear it up! If all else fails do not be too embarrassed to go see your Doctor! Your feet deserve the best after all they do for you!

Tip #5 – When Swimming Protect Your Feet!

We know that in public showers that infection can spread easily and that protecting our feet is important. It is just as important when swimming in the ocean, rivers, and lakes. There is ample opportunity in these wild places to accidentally cut your feet and you might not even notice. This gives bacteria a way into your body and you could develop an infection. Swimming shoes are not expensive, and they could save you a lot of pain. They are not beautiful but they will help keep your feet from looking and feeling terrible! Remember to dry your feet out an let the swim shoes dry out too!
