21 Day Sugar Detox – Update Day 12

   Not Fun

While I have friends who have done this program without issues, I seem to have no such luck. I learned after a week into it that I had gained weight, likely due to over indulging in nuts that are high in carbohydrates compared to other things on this diet. The idea is to keep the blood sugar low and steady for good health so too many nuts was not helping my cause any. I found that I was craving different things on different days but really what I missed was just grabbing easy junk foods to snack on. Thus the nuts, easy to carry, and just grab a handful of where ever I was.

    Goodbye Nuts

Having given up nuts, my spirits plummeted. I had no interest in any food, and was feeling deprived. Headaches came back being so low carb again and I was miserable. I wasn’t going to cheat, but I was certainly suffering and I hated it. As a result, I ended up increasing my intake of milk. This also added more unnecessary carbs though helped my head clear up.

      Day 12

I am still over a pound more now than when I started. I have not cheated and I do not plan to. Though Valentine’s Day was very hard I have to admit. I am trying to wrap my mind around simply finishing the 21 days and getting to eat a few strawberries again and enjoy tea and coffee with stevia again. I am trying not to focus on the weight issue.

Going gluten free was easy, this is not, not for me anyway.

Sorry you are gaining weight I’ve thought about doing detox but not about a sugar detox….It’s now on my to think about list.

Thank you. I know I will figure it out but goodness it is aggravating! Health is really important and there are so many contradicting diets. I think though over all that everyone agrees sugar is one of the bigger issues.

Boy, I could never do that. If I did I’d never eat!

  3. Congratulations, Kimberly, on tackling sugar. My wife struggles more with sugar than I do, though soda is my vice. I don’t know if this will help you, but it certainly has helped us. We have increased our protein (even protein drinks), which has reduced the sugar cravings. Are you familiar with Tim Ferriss? Ferris gave me the info to control sugar & reduce fat with a “slow carb” nutritional program > http://fourhourbody.com/ PS – on Tim’s blog, he blogged about the slow carb plan w/ 100s of valuable comments from readers who’ve experienced success. Lots of comments about controlling sugar. Please let me know what you think. Hope this helps. Mike

  4. Eeeks. This is one detox I do not think I could do either. I am not a “sweets” person, but I eat a ton of fruit and yogurt. Good luck to you… you are at least over half way to the finish line! 🙂
