As we are crunchy parents and we homeschool of course a lot of the ideas and outdoor kids activities we love are going to be educational! We know public school parents are worried about the summer slide too! Did you know that over 2.5 months of math skills are lost over the summer and on average 2 months of reading skills? All it takes to mitigate that loss is 3 hours a week dedicated to those skills. This doesn’t mean forcing a child to sit at a table and fill out workbooks though! Sometimes we busy parents don’t have all the time in the world to put outdoor activities together for kids. Sometimes simple is best! Help Kids Fall In Love With Nature!

Art is part of a healthy STEAM education and so we are sure to include activities like a Flower Petal Suncatcher, Nature Paintbrushes, Bubble Painting, and Shaving Cream Painting. Using items actually found in nature is something this Crunchy mom specially loves and my littles love it too. We just got a picnic table so the kids can do more and more outside! Crafting outside can feel like summer camp at home but without the scary parts!

Getting kids outside is important as kids spend less than half the time outside as we did as kids.
